Vice President Kamala Harris enjoyed a hearty laugh on the Senate dais last week, when she had to refer to herself in third person while swearing in her replacement.
The belly-laugh came moments after she took her seat for the first time as president of the now-Democrat-controlled Senate, and after she spoke these words:
“The chair lays before the Senate two certificates of election for the state of Georgia and a certificate of appointment to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of former Sen. Kamala D. Harris of California.”
Clearly enjoying herself, she laughed out loud from behind her face mask as many of the senators and staff on hand in the chamber joined in laughing and clapping.
“Yes, that was very weird,” she said of the third-person reference, giving another laugh before swearing in the term’s new senators.
